Women’s Basketball Woori Bank defeats BNK to take sole lead…1 point behind KB
Asan Woori Bank takes sole possession of first place in the women’s professional basketball league with a win over Busan BNK.
Woori Bank defeated BNK 76-72 on Tuesday in the home leg of the Woori WON 2023-2024 Women’s Professional Basketball League regular season at Yi Sunshin Gymnasium in Asan, Chungcheongnam-do.
Riding a six-game winning streak, 스포츠토토 Woori Bank remained in sole possession of first place (12-1) with a one-game lead over second-place Cheongju KB (11-2).
With title rival KB suffering a blowout loss to Samsung Life in Yongin two days ago, Woori seized the opportunity to consolidate its lead.
Woori Bank will host Samsung Life away on Dec. 22 before hosting KB for the third time this season on Christmas Day.
BNK, which played a back-and-forth game with the leaders but was unable to accumulate a win, remained in fifth place (4-10).
Woori Bank seemed to be taking it easy in the second quarter, taking an eight-point lead at one point, but a mid-range basket by Jin An and an outside shot by Ahn Hye-ji in the final minute of the quarter left them trailing by three points, 41-38, at halftime.
A fierce seesaw game ensued, with BNK taking a 51-50 lead midway through the third quarter on a Jinan free throw.
The game was decided in the final minutes.
With 9.9 seconds left, Goara’s three-pointer cleanly split the rim to give Woori Bank a four-point lead, 76-72.
On BNK’s final offensive possession, Jinan’s three missed the rim and Goara grabbed the defensive rebound to seal the win for Woori Bank.
Choi Yi-sam led the way for Woori Bank with 24 points, including five three-pointers.
Choi set a new career-high for points in a single game and reached 200 career three-pointers.
Lee Myung-kwan, who had 18 points and eight rebounds, and Goa, who hit the game-winning three-pointer, also shined.
Jin-an’s 24 points and 11 rebounds highlighted BNK’s loss.
