Croatian Zavic to Pepper with the No. 1 overall pick…Burkina Faso to be the new president
Croatian outside hitter Barbara Javic, 29, will wear the No. 1 overall pick and will play for Pepper Savings Bank.
The Korea Volleyball Organization (KOVO) held the 2024 Women’s Foreign Player Draft on Monday (Sept. 9) at the Holiday Inn & Suites Dubai Science Park in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The seven women’s clubs were selected in the reverse order of their standings from the 2023-2024 season through a lottery. Pepper Savings Bank, Jungkwanjang, Korea Expressway Corporation, IBK, GS Caltex, Heungkuk Life Insurance, 메이저 토토사이트 and Hyundai E&C each selected one player.
Pepper Savings Bank, which finished last in the league last season, received the first overall pick. Pepper Savings Bank head coach Jang Ji-yeon called out the name of 194-centimeter apogee spiker Zavic.
With his height and offensive prowess, Zavic attracted a lot of attention at the tryout. With the selection of middle blocker Zhang Yu (China – 197 centimeters) in the previous Asian Quarterly Draft, Pepper Savings Bank now has the best height in the V-League.
Zheng was lucky to be selected second overall after finishing third last season. After receiving the earlier-than-expected pick, head coach Ko Hee-jin asked for time.
After much deliberation, Ko selected Vanya Vukiric (25-Serbia), who played for Korea Expressway Corporation. Vukiric was the third-leading scorer last season, but his contract was not renewed by Korea Expressway Corporation.
Chung, who has an Asian quota player, Mega, was expected to select an outside hitter, but he chose Apojit Vukiric. Club officials, who had Vukiric’s name in mind, breathed a sigh of disappointment.
Next, Korea Expressway Corporation selected left-handed outside hitter Merelin Nikoleva (21-Bulgaria-183 cm) with the third pick. IBK, which needed height reinforcements after drafting setter Chen Xintong (China), selected apo jit spiker Victoria Danchak (24-Ukraine-191 cm) at No. 4.
Fifth-ranked GS Caltex and seventh-ranked Hyundai E&C re-signed Moma (31-Cameroon) and Silva (31-Cuba), respectively, the day before. Sixth-ranked Heungkuk Life, which was virtually last in line, called for time when all the players they had in mind were selected. Heungkuk Life head coach Marcello Abondanza chose Turku Bourge (25-191 centimeters), an apogee spiker from Turkuye.
Moma, Silva, and Vukiric, a second-year player, will each earn $300,000 (about 410 million won). The newcomers to the V-League will earn $250,000 (approximately KRW 343 million) per year.
