Holland-led Man City earn 26 billion won in a week on Korea-Japan tour
Manchester City’s Elling Holland, who is on a pre-season tour, arrives at Incheon International Airport on July 27.
Manchester City (England) earned $20 million (about 26 billion won) from its preseason tour of South Korea and Japan.
Japanese media outlet Nikkan Sports reported on July 2 (below) that “City returned home with $20 million in a week from their Asia tour of South Korea and Japan.”
City beat Yokohama Marinos 5-3 in Japan on the 23rd and Bayern Munich 2-1 on the 26th.
City then continued their tour in South Korea, where they faced Atletico Madrid (Spain) on the 30th and lost 1-2.
City’s star-studded roster, including Elling Holland, drew plenty of attention throughout the tour.

Nikan Sports explained, “The match between City and Bayern Munich was a huge success at the box office, with more than 60,000 people in attendance for most of the matches, including the City-Atletico Madrid match in South Korea, even though some tickets were priced at over 20,000 yen (about $180,000).”
Indeed, the tour saw City receive a lot of attention both on and off the pitch. From the time the team arrived in Japan, there were fans everywhere they went, and jerseys and other merchandise sold like hotcakes.

In South Korea, there were long lines at City-related booths before and after the game, including many at the airport. The stands were overwhelmingly filled with fans wearing sky-blue jerseys, City’s signature color.
Nikkan Sports also reported on the tour, saying, “City not only got a good bargain, but also got a proper checkup for the new season by playing against top European teams.”
