This year, the Korean professional baseball league introduced a new system where if an existing foreign player is injured to the extent that he needs treatment for more than 6 weeks, he is listed on the rehabilitation player list and a replacement foreign player can play until the player returns.
SSG Landers first used this system to recruit Keisho Shirakawa in late May when Roenis Elias was out for more than six weeks with a hamstring injury.
Shirakawa, who came from the Japanese independent league, pitched in five games for SSG, posting 2 wins, 2 losses, and an ERA of 5.09, and said goodbye to SSG at the end of his six-week contract.
