Son Heung-min has been officially named captain of Tottenham Hotspur ahead of the club’s opening game of the 2023-24 English Premier League (EPL) season.

Son Heung-min, 31, 섯다 will wear the captain’s armband for Tottenham Hotspur in the English Premier League (EPL) after captaining the South Korean national soccer team.

“Son Heung-min has been appointed as the new captain of Tottenham Hotspur,” the club announced on its website on Wednesday (local time).

Tottenham had to choose a new captain after parting ways with Hugo Lloris, who served as captain from 2015-16 to 2022-23, and Harry Kane, who served as preseason captain, joined German giants Bayern Munich. Son will take on the role.

“It’s not just because he’s a popular player that he gets the captaincy,” said head coach Ange Postecoglou, “He’s shown great leadership on and off the field. He is a world-class player and is respected by everyone,” explained the new captain.

Tottenham will open the 2023-24 EPL season against Brentford at 10 p.m. ET on Sept. 13, marking Son’s first game as captain.
