Kim Hye-sung of the Kiwoom Heroes went 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored in a 10-8 win over the Lotte Giants at the Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul on Monday.

With the score tied 1-1 in the bottom of the third inning, Kim limped to second base on her follow-up hit. She came home on a groundout and an error.

With the score 6-1, she hit a leadoff single in the fourth inning to drive in three more runs, and a sacrifice fly with one out in the fifth brought in the 10th run.

As Lotte self-destructed with three errors, Kiwoom escaped with its ninth straight loss and avoided the ignominy of setting a new team record for the longest losing streak.

The win was especially welcome for the team, which has lost 11 of its last 14 games (two wins and one draw) after losing star player Lee Jung-hoo to an ankle injury on March 23.

Looking back on the losing streak, Kim said, “I was very upset,” but added, “We had a lot of conversations with each other, saying, ‘Let’s work hard as a team. I approached every game with that mentality.”

She said she often keeps in touch with her best friend Lee Jung-hoo.

“Yesterday, when I got hit by the ball, she called me to see if I was okay,” Kim said, adding, “During the losing streak, she just told me to keep working hard and be strong because she knows how I feel.”
