‘Park Ji-soo’s double-double’ leads KB women’s basketball to win over Woori Bank
Women’s professional basketball’s Cheongju KB ended Asan Woori Bank’s seven-game winning streak to open the season.
KB won 50-45 at home against Woori Bank in the Woori WON 2023-2024 Women’s Professional Basketball Regular Season at Cheongju Gymnasium in Chungcheongbuk-do on Sunday.
KB, which lost 71-72 to Woori Bank’s Lee Myung-kwan on a last-second buzzer-beater in their first-round meeting on Nov. 15, was swept by Woori Bank in the second round.
The two teams also exchanged wins and losses in the first and second rounds, leaving them tied for first place with a 6-1 record. They are two games behind third-place Yongin Samsung Life (4-3).
KB trailed 9-16 after the first quarter, but held Woori Bank to just two points in the second quarter and scored 12 points to take a 21-18 lead into halftime.
Woori Bank scored two points in the second quarter by Park Ji-hyun alone, tying the record for fewest points scored in a quarter in women’s professional basketball history.
Woori tied the game early in the third quarter with a three-pointer by Lee Myung-kwan and took a 27-23 lead after consecutive baskets by Park Ji-hyun, Na Yoon-jung, and Kim Dan-bi, but KB responded with a basket by Park Ji-soo and a three-pointer by Heo Ye-eun.
Starting the fourth quarter with a 37-31 lead, KB began to pull away with back-to-back baskets from Heo Ye-eun and Kim Min-jung to extend the lead to 10 points early in the fourth quarter.
KB was led by the first-round Most Valuable Player (MVP) Park Ji-soo, who recorded a double-double with 18 points and 16 rebounds.
Woori Bank responded with 19 points and 13 rebounds from Kim Dan-bi, but failed to extend its opening seven-game winning streak.
Both teams shot poorly from three-point range on the day, with KB shooting 12 percent (3/25) and Woori Bank shooting 12.9 percent (4/31). 파워볼
