‘Here we go with Kim Min-jae as coach!’ Kompany’s move to Bayern virtually complete
Vincent Kompany is set to become Bayern Munich’s new head coach. Leading journalists have reported that the deal has already been finalized.
European soccer transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano tweeted on his personal social media account on Friday (ET) that Kompany will join Bayern as their new coach, using the signature phrase “Here we go” to confirm the deal.
‘The clubs have already agreed on a €12 million release clause and the contract has already been signed,’ Romano added. Kompany will become Bayern’s new coach on a three-year contract,” Romano said, adding that Kompany’s move to Bayern was effectively finalized.
German Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg, who is well versed in Bayern news, also confirmed the news on his personal social media, writing: “Kompany transfer is almost complete. He will be the new coach. A verbal agreement was reached in the last few days and the contract is until 2027. All that remains is Kompany’s signature,’ confirming Kompany’s arrival at Bayern.
The Bavarians have been in the market for a new coach since Thomas Tuchel’s departure was confirmed after this season. However, unlike the long and drawn-out process that followed the announcement of Tuchel’s departure, Bayern’s search for a new coach has been slow.
Xabi Alonso was initially said to be the top priority. Alonso took over at Leverkusen in October last year and has already proven his mettle this season, winning the Bundesliga title. However, Alonso, who was keen to continue his association with Leverkusen, rejected Bayern’s offer.Julian Nagelsmann’s return to Bayern was then considered, but the German international quickly dismissed the possibility of a return to Bayern, signing an extension with the German national team. Robert Degerbi, Zinedine Zidane, and Julen Lopetegui have all since turned down offers from Bayern.
Ralf Rangnick was also considered as a candidate. While Langnick was less attractive than the aforementioned candidates, Bayern were keen to pursue him as a coach who could help them given their need to rebuild and overhaul their squad, and with Langnick wanting to join Bayern, it looked like the Bavarians would only have to work out the kinks to get him on board. However, despite a subsequent meeting between Langnick and Bayern, the deal fell through when Langnick decided to stay with the Austrian national team. As a last resort, the club tried to retain Tuchel, but failed. Tuchel was reportedly in talks with Bayern, but later made headlines when he officially announced in a press conference that he would not be staying at Bayern.
Bayern’s plans to appoint a new manager have been turned upside down by the emergence of a surprising candidate. Kompany, who has 사설토토 been in charge of Burnley this season.
Kompany is one of those legendary defenders who has been a prodigious performer ever since he made his professional debut for Belgian side Anderlecht in 2003. He was a club legend at Manchester City from 2008 to 2019, where he helped the club rise to the top.
Kompany first started his coaching career as a player-manager at Anderlecht in 2019, before taking charge of Burnley in 2022. He led Burnley to promotion in his first season in charge, but struggled in the English Premier League (EPL). After winning promotion in the 2023-2024 season, he led Burnley back to relegation in 19th place in his first season in charge.
Despite having one of the best careers of his career as a player, Kompany’s lackluster leadership in the EPL caused some concern when the possibility of him joining Bayern emerged. However, Bayern recognized Kompany’s potential and moved quickly to negotiate with him, as he had earned praise for consistently working to improve Burnley’s squad despite their poor results, and his tactical style would be a perfect fit for Bayern.
Bayern, who were keen to sign Kompany, also appear to have finalized negotiations with Burnley over a penalty fee, which was the final stumbling block. Initially, Burnley were said to be demanding €20 million, with Bayern reportedly willing to pay half that amount. Some reports also suggested that Kompany himself was in contact with Burnley to ask for an adjustment to the penalty. In the end, it is believed that they agreed to €12 million, lower than the €20 million.
With Kompany’s impending appointment, Bayern will undergo a period of change ahead of next season. Kompany will be in charge of a new tactical and squad structure. Kim Min-Jae will also have to fight for his place at the center of Kompany’s system, despite his ups and downs this season.
Kompany’s appointment comes as Bayern struggled to find a new coach after ending their relationship with Tuchel. All eyes will be on Kompany after the official announcement.
